Built in 1985 and designed by Robert Trent Jones II, Dove Valley Ranch Golf Course, with its wide and plush fairways quickly became one of our favourites in2014. 

While the front nine is easier to play than the back nine, the front nine prepares the golfer for the more challenging holes to come.  Dove Valley Ranch Golf Course is in the High Sonoran Desert, and while there are no bunkers to challenge golfers with distance before the green, the water on the holes ensures that each golfer plays a game of strategic placement on each hole.  Dove Valley’s #6 hole, not surprisingly, its signature hole, challenges players the entire length of the right side of the hole.

The course is surrounded by beautiful homes with wonderful landscaping matching the meandering course and the spectacular desert scenery.

As noted above, we found the front nine easier to play than the back nine and made good use of the Pro-Link GPS which helps everyone get better at discerning distances to the pin and therefore speeding up play. The water and sand hazards will have to be strategically played to score well. When  planning to play the course more than once, we also prepared for the more difficult back nine. We felt a need to talk about strategy for playing each hole so as not to completely blow the opportunities for a total low score that we had built for ourselves on the front nine. It worked!! 

On the second day we played this little gem, we heard that it was one of the busiest days that they had had with almost all tee-times filled but this didn’t bother the pace of play.  The clubhouse at Dove Valley Ranch Golf Course fits with the housing developed around it and features a full service pro-shop in a beautiful Southwest style building.   

The service at Dove Valley Ranch Golf Course was outstanding and we discovered a new and unique way for the service personnel to get your clubs right to your car. They actually ride in the cart with you to your car, wash the clubs and put them in the trunk for you. These folks were fantastic so make sure you tip them well.
