Perfectly set on wide open farmland just South of Highway 401 at Putnam Ontario lies the venerable and sometimes vulnerable Tarandowah, one dandy links style golf course. If you love golf the way it was invented, you will be thrilled to play this outstanding wide open design.

 
  The exceptional designer is the famous Dr. Martin Hawtree. Dr. Hawtree’s family has been in the golf course design business continually since the early 1900’s.
 
  For many of you the name Hawtree won’t ring a bell but when we tell you that the good doctor’s work includes the  course renovations at Carnoustie for the  British Open and extensive work to Royal Birkdale for the British Open you won’t soon forget his Tarandowah.
 
  The golf course design is superb but don’t expect to see a big fancy clubhouse with a full menu or beautifully paved cart paths and parking lot just yet . These things will come along soon enough but only if the golfing public demand it!

  What you can expect is one fine links style layout with professionally maintained huge, deep, hairy Scottish style bunkers, elevated greens, and well placed strategic hazards.
 
  The course measures 5380 yards from the red tees up to 7102 yards from the tips. From the blues at 6541 yards you will find this quite the challenge. Keeping the Scottish tradition alive is what Tarandowah is all about. There’s nothing like it in this area.
 
  The Row family have recognized that the wonderful fescue grasses that look so attractive, actually prohibit play and make a round less enjoyable than it could be. Because they have been listening carefully, extensive improvements have been made to increase the enjoyment factor for players at all levels.
 
  Cutting back much of the fescue grasses to enlarge the landing areas and widen the fairways has been a marked improvement as has the placement of tees to accommodate the higher handicapper. In short, these terrific improvements will ensure everyone’s enjoyment.  
 
  Tarandowah even at a par 70 is not the place to be expecting low scores, mountainous vistas and exciting landscape photography. This course cannot be described as pretty , just a terrific test of pure golf the way it was invented ! When the wind blows at Tarandowah, she really shows her teeth so be prepared.
 
  Tarandowah has been open less than 6 years and has already been nominated by Score Magazine for "Best New Course In Canada" and "Best New Course In Ontario"! We fully agree with these nominations. There will only ever be "One Tarandowah"!
