For over 60 years the land the resort sits on was known as Serradella Farms. Developers purchased the land in the late 1960’s to build a golf community and named it Lakewood Shores. The community featured home sites and a private golf course.

Until this time most of the development in Northern Michigan was on the west side of the state. Located on Lake Huron, north of Saginaw on highway US 23 to Oscoda, Lakewood Shores Resort is a convenient getaway for the whole family. Nestled among the natural beauty of Northern Michigan hardwood trees, the resort is a perfect place to relax and play.

Other amenities include a private beach on Cedar Lake for swimming, jet skiing, canoeing and fishing. The sandy beaches of Lake Huron are just minutes away. Come and experience Lakewood Shores historic past today.

GOLF COURSES:

THE GAILESDesigned by Kevin Aldridge, Par: 72, Yardage: 6,954.
The Gailes is rooted in the history and traditions of the famed seaside courses of Scotland. It is windswept with undulating fairways and greens protected by deep sod faced bunkers and bordered by wispy fescue grasses. The Gailes plays dry and fast and all the trouble is on the ground between the golfer and the hole. This course requires courage, skill and strategy not found anywhere else in Michigan or the Midwest.

Golf Digest gave The Gailes national acclaim when it ranked it the “#1 Best New Resort Course in the United States for 1993”.“#1 Public and Resort Course in Michigan” by Golf Digest in 1996. Rated “#1 Resort Course in Michigan” by Detroit News Golf Guide 1997.

BLACKSHIREDesigned by Kevin Aldridge, Par: 72, Yardage 6,898.
Blackshire golf course was opened in 2001. The course was largely influenced by the famous Pine Valley Golf Club. Almost every hole has vast waste areas. The fairways meander through tall pines and hardwood trees.

The greens are quite undulating making putting very difficult. Playing Blackshire is an impressive golfing experience. The course is a challenge from start to finish. There is a certain beauty and rustic feeling playing at this golf course. A player can score on this course but you better bring your “A” game.

SERRADELLA“Parkland Golf in a Beautiful Floral Setting” Designed by Bruce Mathews.
Golf Destination Review did not play this course. Pure Michigan- Michigan’s Official Travel and Tourism web site writes: “The Serradella at Lakewood Shores Resort, designed by Bruce Mathews, offers the perfect resort course to compliment the other championship designs.

The Serradella is a classic parkland design with minimal hazards, wide fairways and large greens. With half the holes cut through the heart of nature, you may see deer, wild turkey or even fox. Each spring this course comes alive with an explosion of color from over 50,000 annual and perennials meticulously arranged and showcased throughout the Serradella and resort, truly making it a breath taking and enjoyable setting for great golf.
