Treetops Resort is a multiple award-winning complex long known for exciting and memorable golf. It is perched high above the Pigeon River Valley and offers majestic views of Northern Michigan. Treetop's inventory of four championship courses began back in 1986 when Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed one of his final layouts.
Rick Smith, the resorts current owner and long time Director of Golf was so inspired by the resort's first two courses, that the late owner Harry Melling commissioned Smith to build Threetops-par 3 course, and then two additional championship courses, (The Signature and Tradition courses).
Treetops was home to the very first of the Golf Channel's "Big Break" television shows for many good reasons. Great accommodations, superb meals, golf courses with spectacular views plus staff that provide the ultimate in assistance and charm.

The Tradition at Treetops – Northern Michigan
Where do we start? Well Rick Smith has done it again with the Tradition course at Treetops. We call it Rick’s winningest design yet.
Why the winningest? It has everything that anyone could ever want in a fabulous golf experience. The Tradition is not a long 18 holes but at a par 70 is plenty challenging. The conditioning of this course meets the exceptional standards set by Rick Smith and his crew for all of the Treetops courses.
Treetops is also a proud participant of the Michigan Turfgrass Environmental Stewardship Program. This program supports the enhancements of wildlife habitat, indigenous plants and trees, and water resources.
The features of the Tradition are proof positive that shorter holes can be a great deal of fun and challenge simply due to how a true master designer thinks through his designs. The Tradition is a wonderful layout for all levels of golf expertise. The greens are second to none.
The Tradition is the newest member to the course family at Treetops. It joins Rick Smith’s other two designs known lovingly as the Rick Smith Signature course and Threetops, a par 3 gem.
The Tradition has won many awards including a Golf Digest 4-1/2 star rating and Golf Magazine’s Silver Medal Resort list.
Couple all of this with excellent accommodations, exceptional practice and training facilities, outstanding meals and extraordinary service no matter who you are dealing with and you have the recipe for a truly world class golf experience.
